LU - Loughborough University
Loughborough University is currently among the leading Universities in the UK, with rankings typically around 8th to 12th place among the over 100 UK institutions. Loughborough University has a strong research emphasis, providing research leadership in many fields. The Environmental Ergonomics Research Group, in the department of Human Sciences has a long track record for research on people in their work environment, in the areas of lighting, noise and vibration and of thermal exposure. In the latter area, research has been performed in the laboratory and in industry on workers experiencing heat stress (e.g. steel industry) and cold stress (freezer rooms). The group is lead by Prof. Dr. George Havenith, who is Loughborough’s lead participant in this project. In the past he has published research on heat and cold stress and on protective clothing in renowned academic journals, and his work has been extensively integrated in European and ISO standards. He has successfully lead and coordinated several projects with International partners, e.g. ’THERMPROTECT’ (Framework 5) and also co-chairs COST action 730 for the ESF. Within these projects he has cooperated with some of the partners from the present project proposal.
