D’Appolonia

D’Appolonia is an Italian private company with 300 staff, offering consultancy services to industries, government bodies and research organizations. The company is based in Genoa, Italy, having also offices in Milan, Rome, Brindisi, Naples and Viareggio for Italy plus permanent offices in Korea, China, United Arab Emirates and Russia. The firm was founded in 1956 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania by Prof. Elio D’Appolonia. Since 1981, the Genoa office is independent and operates in diverse fields of the engineering consultancy. The firm has a well qualified staff with expanded capabilities in risk, safety, and systems engineering and has undertaken varied and complex endeavors in a range of world wide projects. D’Appolonia staff is now composed of managers, scientists, engineers and technical staff with high level qualifications and experience and is proud of its participation to over 15,000 projects in more than 30 countries. D’Appolonia has expanded its services to other industrial fields like energy, environment and infrastructures, industry (including textile, which is of interest for the present project), space, offshore, and transportation. D’Appolonia has extensive project management capacities and established technology and know how transfer from science and high-tech to industrial applications in areas relevant to the SMEs. In particular the role of D’Appolonia in advanced Technology Transfer from Aerospace to terrestrial application and adaptation of high tech materials has been performed through more than 16 years cooperation as Italian partner for ESA Technology Transfer Programme. D’Appolonia has a wide experience in Research and Development projects, funded both by private industry and by the European Commission under FP5, FP6 and FP7. In European research, D’Appolonia has been leading more than 35 initiatives, in the field of textiles, construction, transportation and energy, and involved as participant in more than 50 EC Projects.
